Cook time 2-3 hours

Ingredients

  • 1 spiral ham
  • BBQ Seasoning
  • 1/4 cup of bourbon
  • 1 1/2 cups of brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup of orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce (Teriyaki sauce will also work)
  • 1 teaspoon of ground mustard
  • 1 teaspoon of black pepper
  • Orange zest

Instructions for Bourbon Glazed Ham

Trim the Ham: First, trim any excess fat off your spiral ham. This helps develop a nice bark/crust on the ham.

Season the Ham: Next, season your ham on all sides with BBQ seasoning for a robust flavor.

Preheat the Smoker: Set your smoker to 250 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure it’s ready for the ham.

Smoke the Ham: Place your seasoned ham on the smoker and cook for 2-3 hours. I found closer to 3 hours was perfect, but you can also make this in the oven if preferred.

Prepare the Glaze: After 2 hours, it’s time to assemble the glaze. In a small pot over medium heat, add your bourbon and orange juice.

Add Ingredients: After a few seconds, add brown sugar, soy sauce, ground mustard, and pepper. Let the mixture cook down for a few minutes until it thickens and the alcohol cooks off.

Glaze the Ham: 15-20 minutes before removing your ham, start glazing. Glaze your ham on all sides every 5 minutes for the last 20 minutes of cooking.

Rest the Ham: Once your ham is done, remove it from the smoker and let it sit for 10-15 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute.

Carve and Serve: Finally, carve up your ham and enjoy the delicious smoky flavor with a sweet bourbon glaze.

By following these steps, you’ll create a succulent and beautifully glazed spiral ham that’s sure to impress your guests. Perfect for any festive gathering!
