Beer Can Chicken

Boldly Brewed, Perfectly Barbecued: Unleash the Flavor of Beer Can Chicken!

BBQ beer can chicken is a popular and delicious method of cooking a whole chicken that results in juicy, flavorful meat with crispy skin. The process involves standing a whole chicken upright on a can of beer and cooking it on a grill or in an oven. The beer can serves a dual purpose in this cooking technique. First, it helps to keep the chicken moist during the cooking process by releasing steam and infusing it with flavor. Second, it acts as a stand, keeping the chicken upright while allowing it to cook evenly.

  • Next, add 2 tablespoons of molasses, 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, and 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard to the saucepan.

Instructions for Beer Can Chicken

  • To kick things off, preheat your grill to medium heat, typically around 325°F. Alternatively, if you prefer, you can achieve the same temperature using an oven.
  • Before cooking, prepare your chicken by removing any giblets or excess fat from the cavity, then pat it dry with paper towels for optimal crispiness.
  • Next, generously rub the chicken with olive oil to ensure even cooking and a deliciously crispy skin. Then, season the chicken liberally with Cajun seasoning for a flavorful kick
  • Now, crack open a can of beer and pour out about a quarter of it (or enjoy a sip!). Place the can on a stable surface, using a beer can chicken holder if available, or simply balance the chicken on the can by inserting it into the cavity.
  • Carefully lower the chicken onto the beer can, ensuring it stands upright on the grill or in a roasting pan.
  • When ready, place the chicken on the preheated grill or in the oven, utilizing indirect heat. For grilling, turn off the burners directly beneath the chicken while keeping the others on medium heat. If using an oven, position the chicken on a baking sheet or in a roasting pan.
  • Once the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 158°F, it’s time to glaze it with your favorite BBQ sauce for that irresistible flavor.
  • Continue cooking the chicken for approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the internal temperature registers 163°F in the thickest part of the thigh, and the juices run clear.
  • Once cooked to perfection, carefully remove the chicken from the grill or oven, using tongs to extract the beer can from the cavity (be mindful as it will be hot).
  • Allow the chicken to rest for 10-15 minutes before carving to allow the juices to redistribute, resulting in a juicier and more flavorful bird.
  • Finally, carve the chicken and serve it alongside your preferred side dishes for a mouthwatering meal that’s sure to impress!
